Aikido

3rd Apr 2011

Aikido is a form of martial art originated from Japan. Compared to other common martial arts example Taekwondo, Karate etc., Aikido is very unique and different in the way that it teaches the students to focus primarily on self-defense rather than attacking the opponents using punching, kicking etc. The new joiners will be taught the basic and right technique to fall without getting the major parts of the body hurt, most importantly protecting the head and the back. Once the students advance to higher level, techniques focus on diverting the opponent’s attack leveraging the opponent’s force itself will be the primary focus. This martial art is also comparatively harder to master than other martial arts but once the students go through the learning curve eventually he or she will master the various techniques naturally and subconsciously.

In Klang Valley, one of the great center is the Yoshikan Aikido Malaysia, with its main dojo (school) located at Jalan Gasing Petaling Jaya. This center features dedicated instructors and very friendly learning environment. For more details, refer to http://www.yoshinkan-aikido.com.my/

By the way, if you know the American action film star Steven Seagal, you probably have seen Aikido before on the big screen, whom actually possesses a 7th dan black belt in Aikido.
